ACSS conductors, non-uniform in nature, are crafted from round aluminum 1350-O wires and round, coated steel core wires. These steel wires are shielded with a Class A coating of zinc and 5% aluminum mischmetal alloy, with additional corrosion-resistant coatings available. They also come in Standard, High, Extra, and Ultra High Strength steel options. Manufactured according to ASTM specification B856.
- Uses of ACSS Conductors: Enhance line capacity with existing tensions and clearances during reconductoring. Optimize structures for new lines due to low sag and higher emergency loading capability. Ideal for lines with aeolian vibration issues
- ACSS Conductors Construction: Concentric-lay stranded conductors made from round aluminum 1350-O wires and round, coated steel core wire(s). Steel wires are coated with Class A zinc 5% aluminum mischmetal alloy. Additional coating classes and strength options available
- ACSS Conductors Advantages: Preferred for specific transmission line applications over ACSR conductors. Operable up to 250C with zinc 5% aluminum mischmetal alloy coating on steel wires
