The appealing Beagle B.206 Basset, a twin-engine light executive transport and military communications aircraft, was crafted by Beagle Aircraft Company at their Shoreham base. Despite its promise, it was produced in limited numbers. The Basset's spacious cabin drew the RAF's interest, leading to a 1963 fly-off against the de Havilland Devon. The Basset won, securing an initial 20-aircraft order. In RAF service, it was designated Basset CC.1, entering service in May 1965. Powered by two Rolls-Royce/Continental GIO-470 engines, it offered a top speed of around 220mph and a range of 1,650 miles, comfortably carrying up to eight passengers. Its intended duties included transporting fully equipped V-Bomber crews between UK airfields, serving the Queen's Flight, and supporting test pilot schools.
