Seasons 1-4 of Homeland follow CIA officer Carrie Mathison's obsessive and illegal surveillance of Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody, a POW she suspects is a terrorist for al-Qaeda leader Abu Nazir. While Brody initially appears to be a war hero, it is revealed he was turned by Nazir during his captivity and later plots a terrorist attack on US soil, which culminates in his attempt to bomb the Vice President in Season 2. He flees the country but is eventually recruited by the CIA as an asset before being killed by Iranian forces in Season 3. Carrie takes a new assignment as a CIA station chief in Kabul, Afghanistan, where she continues her work and starts a family with Brody, dealing with the fallout of the previous seasons' events in Season 4.
