The plane achieved a high maximum speed of approximately 676 km/h. The armament included two 20mm machine guns and four 7.7mm machine guns. Spitfire Mk. XVI was used mainly as an escort and reconnaissance fighter, taking part in operations on various war fronts. Its improvements, especially in performance and visibility, made it an effective means of air combat late in WWII.
