This is a Vintage Folding Star Paper Lantern with Hanging Cord and bulb protector.
I purchased at the Seattle airport at a cute store called Fireworks in 1999 and was used for just a couple years until my daughter wanted to change her theme in her room.
I’m not sure how to put it together or I would for you so I included a photo of what they look like (last photo) and it comes with the plastic lightbulb protector and the cord is a little over 160” long perfect to hang in a corner of a room from ceiling
