  • Material - By adding 5-8% cobalt to a general 6542 high-speed steel thread plug tap, metric taps with cobalt can have higher hardness(67-68HRC) and precision, better wear resistance and toughness, and higher heat resistance. The surface is coated with TiCN (Dark Silver Black), which has higher hardness and better wear resistance than TiN coating (Gold).
  • Feature - The main advantages of plug taps is that they are easy to use for through-holes, but provide a more complete set of threads than taper taps. The straight flutes provide fast downward chip removal for efficient threading.
  • Application - The hand tap is a versatile tool that can be used to re-thread damaged or jammed threads, or to create new threads. It is suitable for tapping through or shallow holes in mild steels, aluminium, iron, copper, and hard plastic.
  • Note - Ensure proper alignment, use proper tapping technique and apply even pressure when turning the tap to produce clean, accurate threads. Periodically reverse while tapping to break up chips and remove debris from the flutes to prevent clogging and ensure smooth operation. It is recommended that a suitable cutting lubricant or oil be applied during the tapping process to achieve higher quality threads and more durable taps.
