Independent Val Jean, Wave 8

The Val Jean, a compact raider vessel, was operated by the Maquis in the early 2370s. Its impulse engines were constructed in 2332. In 2371, under Chakotay's command, the Val Jean evaded pursuit by the Cardassian warship Vetar, Gul Evek's flagship, by entering the Badlands. After escaping, the Val Jean was transported to the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker's coherent tetryon beam. There, the crew was abducted and examined to assess their compatibility with the Caretaker. Chief engineer B'Elanna Torres was separated from the others and sent to the Ocampa homeworld's surface. To rescue Torres, Chakotay reluctantly allied with Starfleet captain Kathryn Janeway of the USS Voyager, who had been drawn into the Delta Quadrant. Their collaboration led to the successful rescue of both Torres and Voyager crew member Harry Kim.
