First (UK) edition, second impression hardcover copy of Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake (Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1950). Appears to be inscribed by author to friends or family on front endpaper, with image of flower he commonly drew on signatures/dedications and in Peake’s familiar hand. Book two in the gothic fantasy masterpiece trilogy. Jacket is protected in mylar sleeve but with some tanning to covers, spotty discoloration on back cover, chipping around the edges and small liquid stains to interior of back cover and at base of jacket spine. Some spotty discoloration to boards from liquid exposure and with corners and spine ends bumped. Spine is faintly cocked but binding remains firm. Some foxing to endpapers and small stain to bottom edge of a few pages (photographed). Pages are tanned but are otherwise clean and unmarked. See photos for condition.
