Frederick Childe Hassam, born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, in 1859, showed early interest in art, working in a wood engraver's shop and studying at the Boston Arts Club. He moved to Paris in 1886, earning a living through illustrations and painting. Hassam's work was influenced by impressionism, with a focus on light and color. He received awards at the Paris Exposition (1889) and Munich (1892), and was known for his landscapes and figure paintings. Hassam was a member of 'The Ten' and exhibited at the Carnegie International and the Pennsylvania Academy. He passed away in East Hampton, Long Island, in 1935, leaving his work to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
