Rare and collectible Ainu folk art wooden figure pair attributed to Nemoto Doryu (Isao Nemoto), a known artist associated with Hokkaido Ainu craft traditions and the Hakodate Folk Art Research Institute. This hand-carved Showa-period set represents a traditional Ekashi (elder male) and Menoko (female) pair and is closely related to Nipopo-style Ainu carvings, often produced as culturally significant folk objects and regional souvenirs. Carved from solid wood and hand-painted with expressive facial features and traditional motifs. Items signed by Nemoto Doryu are increasingly difficult to find, and paired Ekashi & Menoko figures are especially desirable among collectors of indigenous Japanese art. Condition: Very good vintage condition. Painted details remain bright and intact with only light age-appropriate wear. ✿ Height: 10cm ✿ Width: 6cm ✿ Base diameter: 3cm Wood Keywords: 1950s 1960s 1970s 50s 60s 70s abstract academia aesthetics analog ancient anthropology artcore asian asymmetry collectible craft curio decor earthy ekashi ethno folklore graphic handpainted heritage indigenous japan japandi japanese japonisme kitsch kyodo kyodogangu like local mingei modernist museum naive nipopo nippon okimono organic peasantart pinterest primitivism regional ritual sculpture showa showa-era slowliving spiritual tabletop talisman tiktok tribal tumblr woodcarving zen kyoudo-gangu
