In 1931 America, in Kansas City during the Great Depression, Barbara (Kim Darby), a young lady with a $50,000 necklace, is targeted by a trio of thugs and then kidnapped by a ruthless gang led by the female boss, Grissom. However, Grissom's mama's boy son, Slim (Scott Wilson), becomes infatuated with Barbara...
Based on the true story and the best-selling novel "No Orchids for Miss Blandish" by James Hadley Chase, this is the second film adaptation. Master director Robert Aldrich brilliantly establishes it as a youth violence film, a release for young people with nowhere to go. The violent depictions are striking, but the sense of speed is sometimes intense, sometimes fleeting, and ultimately reaches a level of emotion. This is a masterpiece that should never be forgotten when discussing Aldrich's films. Incidentally, S. Wilson, who gave a great performance as Slim, played Prosecutor Keenan in the Japanese film "Pride: The Fateful Moment," which was based on the Tokyo Trials, and has since appeared in works related to Japan, such as "Pearl Harbor" and "The Last Samurai."
