The German self-propelled artillery vehicle StuG IV, a derivative of the Pz.Kpfw. IV tank, was employed as a 'storm gun' during World War II. Operating alongside advancing infantry, these vehicles targeted enemy strongholds and positions with their 75-mm guns. They were also used to ambush tanks. Due to their lower cost and reduced height compared to tanks with rotating turrets, StuG IVs had a lower chance of being hit by enemy fire. Between December 1943 and April 1945, three German factories produced a total of 1141 StuG IV units.
